This was a really cool opportunity. At this time I would draw generally 1 or 2 things a year and that was it. I don't even know how this guy got a commission out of me....but for some reason he asked and I accepted.
I was too scared to draw back then and my head was all screwed up with procrastination, not really know what I wanted to do exactly, but I was trying to get the nerve up. I'd make these little leaps and this was one of them.
anyway he wanted ANY cartoon character but drawn in the artists own unique version. You could basically do anything you wanted./
I knew immediately I wanted to do Maleficent. I just think that character is so cool looking. Honestly there wasn't a whole lot I would change about the design....so the tweaks are pretty minor.

It really was weird. I think Terry Gilliam directed it...but this evil guy had these creepy rubber gloves and this cool looking cauldron.
I don't think it really looked like this...but that was the basic idea and where I got it from....plus the cool tech Travis was doing on X-Men Wild Cats which was a HUGE influence on me at the time,
