I found a rough sketch last night and really liked it. I started to go in inking it and I guess doing final pencils where it was too rough to just ink it right off. It'll be a full blown inked and washed piece with a lot of detail once I get it done. I may even hand color it...?

I don't remember how this one started. I think it might have been a drawing of Natalie Portman and then I just decided to create a full on Amidala piece out of that portrait....I don't even know honestly.

I'll basically free style all the detailing on the head dress and create my own costume. (in pencil first) It's a lot funner that way. I'll keep a few of the trademarks and go off from there.

This piece is pretty cropped. It's a huge head shot.

also:

I've got a brand new piece I'll be adding later tonight. For fans of Stephen King....stay tuned.

you might find it interesting.

I love when you get detail heavy in your work. Even the little you have inked on this piece, really grabs. Looking forward to seeing this as it progresses.

I would Like to know what you use most when Inking, Brush, Quill, Tech Pens? I see some brush work in the head dress. I would love to become a better Inker

the only thing that is brush on this is the beads.

Everything else is tech pen.

This is basically "flat" inks. I will go in many times and work things much further.

stay tuned.

they didn't actually. Straight up and down. I've done a lot of brush inking so I know a few shapes I can get just by how I hold the brush and how I push down and apply the pressure.

I am working on some new techniques though so although I know a few tricks...I am looking to expand for sure.

thanks for all the posts by the way.

Ahh cool, well they look awesome. But hey, your inks always do :)

I ink mainly straight in photoshop these days, been playing around with all kinds of new techniques lately too. Just finished this pinup last night which came out nicely :

you know what's funny(and as funny as it's gonna sound), i would think that since you're a professional inker, that you'd dive right into the piece with inks off of what you got. i'm curious as to what makes you feel the need to pencil the details, like you mentioned, first?

it basically boils down to wanting to try different things as I work on it. Pencil gives me the freedom to try anything first.
